MIPI cameras are typically used for internal communication within mobile devices, supporting high resolution and high frame rates, and offering advantages such as low power consumption, fast startup, and affordability. USB cameras, on the other hand, are mostly used for connecting external devices, but suffer from high power consumption and slow startup. The MIPI protocol is designed for high-speed, low-power data transmission with lower overhead, primarily due to its streamlined packet structure, efficient physical layer design, point-to-point connections reducing addressing requirements, and simplified protocol stack. In contrast, the USB protocol, due to its versatility and complex functional requirements, necessitates more control fields and error handling mechanisms, resulting in higher overhead.
